Nordstadt Police Department
A mobile police station has popped up in Hanover, Germany, mixing mobility, security and practicality in one portable space. Spanning just 8-sq-m, the structure is adaptable to move as needed. The steel container is covered with panels of high-pressure laminate siding and has an insulated roof and walls.
It’s currently placed across from the Turkish consulate in Hanover’s Nordstadt district, replacing a worn-down police Volkswagen bus which was responsible for protecting the building. ‘The goal was to create a high quality and mobile architectural project that could be produced quickly and inexpensively,’ says architect Wilhelmsen. ‘Plus, we sought to establish an open and transparent working place for police officers.’
The project was completed in just one year from initial concept to realization. ‘The station not only provides a significant improvement in the quality of working, compared to the old VW bus, but now also offers a modern appearance that fits with the urban and architectural situations in the vicinity,’ Wilhelmsen says.
