PopupHood revitalised Old Oakland neighbourhood

PopupHood was  launched by Alfonso Dominquez and Sarah Filly in Oakland, California this past December.

The project was created to revitalize a struggling Oakland neighbourhood – the historic neighbourhood of Old Oakland- with a thriving restaurant and bar scene but little to offer in retail. So, five vacant store fronts were converted to retail shops.

PopupHood’s gave local artists, designers, and retailers their own space for six months rent free in unused buildings effectively revitilizing the area while providing exposure for locals and giving them a place to shop.
